Nikiniki is a confectionery shop that sells Kyoto’s ancient specialty sweets called Yatsuhashi.
Traditionally, yatsuhashis are flat and triangular. After 300 years making yatsuhashis, Nikiniki has put a super cute spin on them for the younger generation.
I discovered this kawaii confectionery shop while watching Hirunandesu (trans. It’s Lunch Time) – an awesome infotainment TV show that airs from 12pm-2pm every weekday on TV Tokyo.
My heart said I have to try it because it’s so cute. My brain said food doesn’t taste as good when the focus is on making it look cute. Nonetheless, it was on my to-visit list on my next Kyoto trip.
Nikiniki is easy to get to. It’s situated outside Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station (also 5 minutes walk from Gion Shijo Station near central Kyoto).
The cuteness means less filling and more dough. But who can resist, especially when they’re only a few dollars each?
I’d definitely stop by again to check out new designs when nearby, so it’s a 🥉(=worth stopping by) on #myrevisitlist .
