Starry Night Soap Bar Recipe

These cute soap bars were made by layering melt and pour glycerine soap.

Preparing the star and moon cut outs

I had mini star shaped cookie cutters, so I melted 60g white soap base and poured it into a soap block mould to make a flat tile of white soap. Once it set, I used the star cookie cutters to make mini star shaped soap.

I didn’t have a moon shaped cookie cutter, but I had a long crescent silicone mould. I melted 60g clear soap base, added 2 drops of yellow pigment and ginger essential oil, then poured it into the moon shaped mould and sliced it once it had set.

Making the soap bars

Two 100g soap bars were made using the bottom part of a 500g soap block mould:

  1. Melt 100g clear soap base. Add 2 drops of blue pigment and lemongrass essential oil. Pour it into the base of the soap block mould. Wait until it sets.
  2. Place star and moon shaped soap cut outs on top.
  3. Melt 100g clear soap base and wait until it cools down to about 50-55 degrees. Spray the set soap with isopropyl alcohol, and pour the clear soap over the top, trying not to melt the small star soap pieces.
  4. Once it’s set, take it out of the mould and slice into two soap bars.

To keep it from getting glycerine dew on the surface, I wrapped it in cellophane.

The stars and moon are embedded in the middle of the soap, so the design can be enjoyed for most of its life 🙂

A similar method was used to make these too; the moon in the white soap extends all the way through the white soap.
